Once upon a time in a small rural town of Vacaville, California there was a young girl who had a huge love for animals. This girl was very fortunate to have a family that indulged her every furry whim.

As she got older this girl raised registered shorthorn cattle and showed English performance horses. She was involved in 4-H and FFA showing her livestock at all the county and State fairs far and wide.

Eventually, all young girls find someone to make their lives with and move away and this young girl was no exception. This change took her to Idaho and far way from home and the animals of her childhood. She became a mother of two beautiful children and they were her whole world.  Although the union dissolved, she and her children were very happy. They surrounded themselves with animals and she began teaching her children about horses, cattle and dogs.

Now a young woman, she and her children showed Quarter horses as well as Appaloosa horses on the local, State and National levels with many year-end and National awards. It was about this time that her daughter fell in love at first sight with a young Basset Hound and thus began their first experience raising and showing those lovely hounds.

As all fairy tales involve a prince charming, this one is no exception. Just when the young woman thought her life was complete along came Steve. He was charming, kind, a single father of two and had a huge compassion for animals. It was a perfect match. Steve had been in livestock all his life. He was a sheep rancher for many years prior to raising beef cattle. When the young woman met him he was running nearly 100 pair of cow/calf combinations. He had a beautiful ranch with plenty of room for the young woman, her children and the menagerie of horses and dogs she brought with them.

Now that our young woman was back involved with cattle as in her youth, it became apparent that the need for a practical farm dog was in order. Something that was compatible with the children, their lifestyles and was portable. They searched far and wide until one day a lady came into the young woman’s store with an amazing little bundle of curiosity that looked so much like a fox. The young woman just had to know what this creature was and the lady replied, “why my dear its a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, of course”. It was apparent after listening to the lady describe what the little dog was bred to do that this was the perfect breed for this newly meshed family -- a perfect family companion and farm dog.

As the years went by and the children got older they all started their own families leaving the now mature woman and her prince with an empty nest of children but a full house of Pembrokes. It was decided they they would sell the ranch and move to a smaller place but still have room for the horses, a few sheep and ducks to keep the Pembrokes busy, and the woman and her prince surrounded by the animals they love. Now the children come by from time to time with the now seven grandchildren to play with the Pembrokes and the other farm animals which makes the woman and her prince very happy.

Now as all fairy tales end I am sure this one will too. But not for a very long time and I am sure it will be a happy one.
